Plot

Elena has been known as the “good girl” in the Cosa Nostra for years. She never speaks out against others, and for all intents and purposes, she knows her place. However, once she meets Nico, the Don of the Cosa Nostra, and a notorious mob boss, all of that flies out the window. Suddenly, she is talking back, speaking out, and causing grown men to lose their cool. Her draw to the Don is met with only one little problem, he is arranged to be married to her younger sister.

Nico is everything you think of when you hear “mob boss.” He is temperamental, possessive, ruthless, and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him. Well, everyone but Elena. She is quickly becoming his weakness, and he will do anything to keep her within his sights.

Review

The mob boss and a princess of a rival family. Nothing can go wrong, right? The premise of this book is straight out of every book lover’s fantasy. There is action, spice, and enough angst to make you continue reading into the early morning hours.

I previously referred to this book as “Mafia Light.” As there is action and some conflict between the different families, it is nothing compared to other books I have read. Most of the plot focuses on the main character, Nico and Elena, and their romantic storyline.

As far as characters go, I loved Nico. He is your typical mafia boss, only soft for his girl, terrifying everyone else. I especially loved his jealous and angst phase. When a man knows what he wants and won’t let anyone else have it, is like eating the sweetest dessert for me!

If there was one thing about this book that was frustrating, it was Elena. She had no backbone with anyone but Nico. It is awesome to see a character come into their own. However, for most of this book, Elena was relying on everyone else. I would have loved to see a stronger female character who took no shit from anyone. That is just a personal preference.

Overall, this book was really good. If you are just getting into the mafia world, this book is a great starter option. I would highly recommend it!
