Plot
Ada walked into a bar, ready to start the biggest job of her career the next morning. While preparing to meet the owner of the ranch house, she will be renovating, Ada meets a very handsome cowboy. In an impulsive more, Ada and said cowboy make out in the back of the bar, leaving her absolutely flustered.
However, that no-name cowboy, whom Ada thought she would never see again, was the owner of the ranch house she would be renovating. Making him her new boss.
Weston is all sunshine. He sends Ada’s world into a spiral by briny someone she can count on. Ada has never known a man to be so kind and understanding before, so she continues to try to push him away.
Wes won’t be pushed away. He becomes a steady and constant companion in Ada’s life. Worming his way into her heart. Ada has no choice but to either let him in or do what she has always done and run.
Review
Lyla Sage is at steadfast as her MMCs. You know exactly what you are getting when you read her books. It is a heartwarming love story that is sure to leave you reading until 2 a.m. and sad once the story comes to an end.
In this book, Sage gave both of her characters difficult issues to overcome. Wes discussed how he suffers from depression but has overcome it by understanding the symptoms, speaking to a doctor, and being on antidepressants. As that is what works best for him.
Ada has been through an emotionally abusive relationship and is now trying to find herself. Sage did a wonderful job in not dismissing what Ada was going through. Her inner turmoil was heart-rending to read because it was done so well.
However, I wish we were able to see some of Wes’s coping skills with his depression. It was discussed that he had it, and I thought that was foreshadowing to an episode, which didn’t happen. Out of the entire book, this is the one thing I was disappointed with. Especially when Ada runs at the end of the book. Instead of Wes going and waiting for her, it could have set off the inner turmoil to be dealt with, and it would have been a very powerful scene to see him trying to cope.
Overall, I loved this book, and I will read pretty much anything Lyla Sage writes. I love her writing style and that her books always end in the sweetest of happily ever afters. I’m super excited for the never book in this series coming out this fall.
