Plot

Marigold has had a crush on Zachary Haven since they were kids. On the other hand, Zachary has been in love with Marigold for just as long. However, neither of them know the feelings the other has for the other.

After a freak accident, Zachary realizes life is too short, and he can’t keep his feelings from Marigold any longer. Unfortunately, Zachary may be too late as Marigold starts dating someone new in town.

After a few dates, Marigold realizes there is something sinister within Preston. On top of that, he is no Zachary Haven, which turns out to be a non-negotiable.

As Zachary and Marigold’s relationship flourishes. There is someone in the background who is just not ready to let her go yet. Is Zachary and Marigold’s love enough? Or will this darkness tear them apart?

Review

This was a book of two halves. The first half is all about the angst between the two main characters, Marigold and Zachary. They both want the other but are too scared to admit it. It is small-town romance gold.

However, about 50 percent of the way through the book, all of the angst dissipates. Zachary and Marigold confess their love, and that’s it. They got together so quickly that I wasn’t able to enjoy it properly. Zachary basically became a completely different person, making it hard to form the proper connection to the characters once they finally got together. I really loved Zachary trying to prove himself to Marigold, and it just seemed she accepted him with zero reservations, even though he ignored her for the past 10 plus years.

That being said, I still very much enjoyed this book. The plot line was incredible. There is something so exciting about a romantic suspense novel. You don’t know when the next issue will occur or when the bad guy will make himself present. Kingsley is a master at creating suspense.
