Plot

For as long as they have known each other, Shane Langley and Diana Dixon have been at each others throats.

Shane’s main enjoyment in life is to piss of Diana, and Diana’s is to make sure Shane knows how much she dislikes him. However, when Shane moves in next door to Diana, their mutual distaste for one another is out on pause.

Shane needs someone to help make his ex-girlfriend jealous, and Diana needs someone to keep her crazy ex-boyfriend as far away from her as possible. With rules set and lines drawn, nothing could go wrong. Until those rules and lines start blurring. Diana and Shane are soon in for a while ride that I won’t spoil for you!

Review

This was absolutely one of my favorite books from Elle Kennedy. The heartbreak, love, friendship, and family were wrapped into a package of perfection.

Shane is such perfect book boyfriend material. He is a serial monogomist who gets his heart broken and wants to act like a playboy for a little while. However, being a playboy is not who Shane is or wants to be. He has such a big heart, and it’s obvious how much he cares about his family and the friends in his life. Even when Diana and him were at odds with one another, you can see how he still cares for her and would help her if only she would ask.

–Spoiler Alert–

Diana is my girl crush. She is strong-willed and independent but still knows what she wants and is willing to go get it. Once she has a goal in mind, nothing will stop her from achieving it.

Now, I loved Diana’s storyline. **There are about to be spoilers, so if you don’t want to know more, please stop reading now.** Her assault was heartbreaking. As a woman, we all know how that is a fear we all have, and she handled it a way many of us probably would, too, by trying to forget it even happened. My heart broke for her. To question her worth and if she really is as strong as her dad always said she was.

I loved that she did end up reporting the assault, with the help from Shane, and then went to therapy to discuss what she went through. This was such an important representation to show how we all heal in our own way, but it is absolutely ok to ask for help if you need it. So, well done, Elle Kennedy!

Shane went through his own rough experiences, and, again, I thought Kennedy did a wonderful job recognizing his feelings, showing a grieving process, and helping him come out the other side. There is nothing I dislike more than feelings being brushed over in books, and she didn’t do that in this book at all. It’s probably why I was crying through the entire last 25% of this book!

Overall, it’s an amazing story, and one I am so glad was told by Elle Kennedy! If you have not read her other work yet, you are absolutely missing out!!
