Plot

Taking place in the black sanded, small town of Grimstone comes a story of mystery, suspense, trust, and love.

Both with a past that hauntqs them and a future uncertain, Dane and Remi find solace in one another. They find trust that is built through communication and understanding. They find love in the most unlikely of places, Grimstone.

Moving to Grimstone was not Remi’s first choice. After being cheated on, being broke, and having to take care of her immature little brother. Remi had no other choice than to go to this spooky and mysterious town to renovate her late Uncles estate, which has been empty for the past 3 years.

Upon arriving in Grimstone, Remi meets her new neighbor, Dane. The handsome, older night doctor is an enigma to Remi. Having a reputation in town, Dane is an outcast and a recluse to his own house. However, Remi wants to form her own opinions on her new neighbor.

Review

Well, damn. When I saw the reviews for this book on Amazon, I wasn’t sure what I was going to get. However, I feel pleasantly surprised after reading this book. Was it the next great novel? No. But was it entertaining and had a captivating plot? Absolutely.

Full disclosure: There are some plot holes and some misunderstandings that I felt were brushed over or just never discussed again. These didn’t really take away from the overall essence of the book, so I didn’t see a huge problem with it.

The characters were definitely entertaining, though, and I liked how the author portrayed everyone where you didn’t know who was going to be the villain until the very end.

Dane and Remi were incredible main chapters. Their chemistry was off the charts right away. I liked that Lark wanted to give them a deeper connection by building trust between them. Sometimes, I felt that wasn’t fully depicted in the writing, but by the end, I was all in on them. She definitely let him off easy on a few occasions, though!

All in all, my favorite part of this book was the plot. I love a good mystery, and this definitely delivered. I won’t touch on it too much to avoid spoilers. However, the plot twist was *chefs kiss* beautiful.

I would highly recommend this book during this spooky Halloween season!
