Plot
Keelani and Dex were each others first loves. However, they were never able to come out into the open because of Keelani’s record label. She had an image to uphold, and Dex didn’t fit into that image.
Even though they were each others first loves, sometimes love isn’t enough. Keelani went off to Nashville, and Dex vowed never to let anyone own his heart ever again.
Fast forward 15 years. They haven’t seen each other in just that long. Keelani just got a contract to work at Dex’s hotel/casino, meaning she will have to come face-to-face with him again.
On the night of her debut, Keelani’s record label says she needs to be engaged to fulfill her contract. Dex takes that literally. So, he proposes that if she is to be engaged to anyone, it will be him. Now, Dex and Keelani have to face their feelings that have been plaguing them for 15 years. Soon, their engagement doesn’t feel so fake, and their feelings feel like they never truly went away.
Review
I read the first two books in this series by Shain Rose, Between Love and Loating and Between Commitment and Betrayal. I enjoyed both books. They are both fake dating/ fake engagement with lots of spice and romance, with a hint of suspense. This book was no different.
Keelanis character was probably the most frustrating part of this entire book. I love a soft hearted FMC, especially if she has a backbone. However, Kee’s backbone was non-existent for most of this book. Watching her allow everyone to walk all over her was one of the most frustrating moments in my reading history. I never wanted to yell at a character like I wanted to yell at her.
I don’t know whether to be impressed or angry at Rose for illiciting such a reaction from me!
Dex was your typical brooding MMC, with major BDE vibes and an overprotective streak that is quite impressive. He definitely used his power Kee in a very manipulative way at the beginning of the book that was super difficult to read at times.
With that said, I would recommend the book. It was a quick read and is definitely one to be added to your TBR.
